...and there was Light Relief!

Light relief theraphy from peter spiegel
What is light and what can light it do for us? These are questions that has fascinated great minds. Beyond the mundane, entire fields of science, philosophy, medicine and computing have spawned from the mysterious force called light.

In ancient India, it was proposed that light is one of the five fundamental "subtle" elements out of which emerge the gross elements. Another school of Indian thought gave an atomic theory of the physical world on the non-atomic ground of ether, space and time. The basic atoms are those of earth, water, fire, and air. These atoms form the basis of binary molecules that combine further to form larger molecules.

In a University physics course I briefly studied the rudiments of modern light theory, but it is the practical health benefits of light that interest I find truly fascinating. My grandfather was an amateur light therapy enthusiast and read a lot of light therapy books and would constantly buy light therapy gadgets, and extol the health benefits of it.

I recently came across a super new gadget sold by Peter Spiegel and Katie Williams of Sylmark LLC which exploits the therapeutic effects of light - for pain relief. "Light Relief" is one truly innovative product which represents the culmination of years of study of the effects of light on pain. The Light Relief system propagates beams of infrared light which literally penetrate human tissue and stimulate the nervous system and destroy the very source of pain.

Of Helicopters and Ultimate Choppers

What is about me and infomercials? On the one hand I find them sensationalistic, cheesy, even misleading; on the other, they take a kind of mind-numbing, trance-inducing hold on my brain that leaves me questioning the very essence of reality.

Rather than infomercials that seem like segments from the twilight zone and which try to skew my thought process and convince me that I suddenly need a tacky product, I expect an infomercial that is riveting & edgy. I look for infomercials that entertain me, impress me, make me laugh; maybe even cry. And it recently struck me that there are some really great and tasteful gadgets out there in the infomercialverse. Last night I came across something genuinely awesome.

I happened to be bored out of my skull during a late night, after-work infomercial binge. Then suddenly, as an emaciated and confused cliff hanger feels on spotting a rescue helicopter - I felt revived and inspired by the twisting and powerful rotor of the Ultimate Chopper spinning onto my screen. The genius behind the Ultimate Chopper and its successful marketing comes directly from Peter Spiegel and Kathleen "Katie" Williams of Sylmark, a formidable and legendry duo on the infomercial scene.

The Ultimate Chopper is one of those uniquely brilliant gadgets that somehow speak to you and make you think - 'Why didn't I think of that?!'. Its a food processor, but more powerful, flexible, compact and versatile. Its the 750 watt engine and uber-strong German steel blade that makes the Ultimate Chopper powerful enough to cut through concrete, or make awesome delicious peanut butter. Its a food Processor, a Standing Mixer, a Coffee Grinder and an Ice Cream Maker in one unit.

The Ultimate Chopper from Sylmark comes with a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee and Ultimate Chopper order includes all this:
Ultimate Chopper
Flavor Guard Bowl
Ultimate Recipe Guide
FREE BONUS: Perfect Juicer
FREE BONUS: Miracle Blade Slicer
FREE BONUS: 4 Miracle Blade Steak Knives

I have ordered an Ultimate Chopper for myself, so check back for an update...

Make Friends with the Miracle Blade III

How to make friends and deliver enemies without weapons? Literarians say that "the pen is mightier than the sword" - meaning that through logical writing and knowledge one can overcome conflict. Daisy yielding hippies insist, "make love, not war". Insectologists are convinced that "you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar". Everyone has a different view of how best to cancel adversaries and recently I came up with a new one, unexpectedly, from the Miracle Blade III from Sylmark.

After hearing the hype, and seeing so many late night re-runs of infomercials, the Miracle Blade and I have long been well acquainted. But not well enough - until last week when I actually received a recent order I had placed. If you've lived in a basement, you may not know Miracle Blade is a knife, but more than that, it’s a formidable culinary weapon that takes no prisoners. Designed with an exceptionally strong blade made from the highest quality of German stainless steel, and comfortable grip, it has a leading position in a new generation of über-knives.

So we decided to buy it and test it. I'm not a cook though and on a scale of culinarianism, where Michelin 5 star awardees are at the top; and mediocre hamburger-makers at McDonalds are at the bottom - I am a member of the group just below that which thinks that gherkins are a type of Nepalese war hero; tofu is a kind of foot disease and a sesame seed is the love-child of Kermit & Big Bird.

I am one of those people who think that squash is something that happens when you don't correctly secure a car jack. So I'm no cook, but with no persuasion my better half helped me out. Now, the thing I hate about preparing food is the cutting. Potatoes - fine, carrots - ok, but when it comes to beef or turnips, I can’t cope. I could put it in the blender and try to cut it that way - I could, but I wouldn't. A blender is for blending, and it normally happens that either the food turns to mush, or turns to saw dust. This is where the real power of the Miracle Blade comes in. Not only could I cut, slice and dice with no effort - the result was something attractive, neatly cut exactly how I wanted it to be cut. The result was something I would actually be proud to dish up. Its the mushy things too - tofu, tomatoes, soft cheeses - that love the pin-point precision of the Miracle Blade's slice.

Miracle Blade III is fantastic in the kitchen, but we soon discovered that it’s out of the kitchen that the real fun starts. So the guys and me decided to take it to the next level and push the knife to its limits. Inspired by the classic infomercials, and by Sylmark's lifetime guarantee that the knife will be unconditionally replaced in the event of damage - we cut boots and old tyres, we stabbed and hacked wood, bricks and chains - all in plenty of time to effortlessly swipe melons in half, mid-air. Somewhere along the line we descended into a kind of futuristic, slow-motion, 3-way sword fight with live swishing sound effects: but we had already made our point - this knife can not, and will not be blunted or broken.

The miracle blade is true culinary poetry in motion; I would recommend it to everyone. Attract the eyes with clean-cut slices of meats and vegetables; unleash mouth-watering flavours of herbs, spices and alliums with the fine chopping action of the blade; but most of all, re-enjoy the pleasure of cooking with family and friends, and take back your kitchen. We actually had so much fun cooking; we talked, joked, laughed way more than regular cooking because the cooking was easy. I will cook again and again with this blade for many years to come and keep you updated...

I genuinely love the Miracle Blade III from Sylmark, and its my new ideal for something that is mightier than any pen or sword, and helps you to make friends and deliver enemies without weapons, because after all, good cooking can win hearts and minds and conquer anyone who loves food.
