How to make friends and deliver enemies without weapons? Literarians say that "the pen is mightier than the sword" - meaning that through logical writing and knowledge one can overcome conflict. Daisy yielding hippies insist, "make love, not war". Insectologists are convinced that "you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar". Everyone has a different view of how best to cancel adversaries and recently I came up with a new one, unexpectedly, from the Miracle Blade III from Sylmark.

After hearing the hype, and seeing so many late night re-runs of infomercials, the Miracle Blade and I have long been well acquainted. But not well enough - until last week when I actually received a recent order I had placed. If you've lived in a basement, you may not know Miracle Blade is a knife, but more than that, it’s a formidable culinary weapon that takes no prisoners. Designed with an exceptionally strong blade made from the highest quality of German stainless steel, and comfortable grip, it has a leading position in a new generation of über-knives.

So we decided to buy it and test it. I'm not a cook though and on a scale of culinarianism, where Michelin 5 star awardees are at the top; and mediocre hamburger-makers at McDonalds are at the bottom - I am a member of the group just below that which thinks that gherkins are a type of Nepalese war hero; tofu is a kind of foot disease and a sesame seed is the love-child of Kermit & Big Bird.

I am one of those people who think that squash is something that happens when you don't correctly secure a car jack. So I'm no cook, but with no persuasion my better half helped me out. Now, the thing I hate about preparing food is the cutting. Potatoes - fine, carrots - ok, but when it comes to beef or turnips, I can’t cope. I could put it in the blender and try to cut it that way - I could, but I wouldn't. A blender is for blending, and it normally happens that either the food turns to mush, or turns to saw dust. This is where the real power of the Miracle Blade comes in. Not only could I cut, slice and dice with no effort - the result was something attractive, neatly cut exactly how I wanted it to be cut. The result was something I would actually be proud to dish up. Its the mushy things too - tofu, tomatoes, soft cheeses - that love the pin-point precision of the Miracle Blade's slice.

Miracle Blade III is fantastic in the kitchen, but we soon discovered that it’s out of the kitchen that the real fun starts. So the guys and me decided to take it to the next level and push the knife to its limits. Inspired by the classic infomercials, and by Sylmark's lifetime guarantee that the knife will be unconditionally replaced in the event of damage - we cut boots and old tyres, we stabbed and hacked wood, bricks and chains - all in plenty of time to effortlessly swipe melons in half, mid-air. Somewhere along the line we descended into a kind of futuristic, slow-motion, 3-way sword fight with live swishing sound effects: but we had already made our point - this knife can not, and will not be blunted or broken.

The miracle blade is true culinary poetry in motion; I would recommend it to everyone. Attract the eyes with clean-cut slices of meats and vegetables; unleash mouth-watering flavours of herbs, spices and alliums with the fine chopping action of the blade; but most of all, re-enjoy the pleasure of cooking with family and friends, and take back your kitchen. We actually had so much fun cooking; we talked, joked, laughed way more than regular cooking because the cooking was easy. I will cook again and again with this blade for many years to come and keep you updated...

I genuinely love the Miracle Blade III from Sylmark, and its my new ideal for something that is mightier than any pen or sword, and helps you to make friends and deliver enemies without weapons, because after all, good cooking can win hearts and minds and conquer anyone who loves food.
